And, we have other reduced legal fee rates as well.

2. CRIMINAL/TRAFFIC CLIENTS:
[Note to those considering COURT-APPOINTED COUNSEL: For those who are considering asking the Court to have a Court-Appointed attorney represent them, please know that if you are convicted you will be required to reimburse the state the amount they paid to the Court-Appointed attorney. In short, you may end up paying legal fees anyway.]
EASY PAYMENTS SPECIAL IN CRIMINAL and TRAFFIC CASES:
Before talking about the actual legal fee (which are set forth below this section) we would like you to know that you can pay our fee, in most cases, in installments.
During these tough economic times we know that spare cash can be hard to come by. So, for most folks charged with criminal or traffic offenses we can take their cases on the following terms:
In most MISDEMEANOR cases we will accept an initial deposit of only $250 ** (with other payments to follow)
In most FELONY cases we will accept an initial deposit of only $ 900 ** (with other payments to follow)
** The foregoing is only the initial deposit. The remaining deposit amounts as well as the final legal fee will be determined after we discuss the details of your case. All legal fee agreements are in writing signed by both you and by us. The fee agreement is very clear and clients know in advance what our final will be and/or how it will be calculated. We always endeavor to be affordable. [Please be advised that sometimes we cannot offer the above Easy Payment Special in highly complex and serious cases. But even if we can’t we try to accommodate the financial needs of all clients if possible.]
SPECIAL CRIMINAL TRAFFIC LEGAL FEES
The criminal/traffic case special legal fee rates below apply ONLY to MISDEMEANOR CRIMINAL and misdemeanor TRAFFIC cases having a TRIAL date (trial on the merits, preliminary hearings and pre-trial motions do not count) within 45 days of your (the client’s) first contact with us:
For those cases only, we will charge the following special fees:
a. ) for a first offense DUI and/or Reckless Driving….. $650; plus, if applicable, $175 extra for: (i) each additional misdemeanor charge and $175 for each witness called by the defense (other than the defendant him/herself ); and (ii) for each written motion filed by the defendant and/or the prosecution.*
b.) for ALL OTHER MISDEMEANOR criminal and/or traffic cases* ….$650 (for a single charge) , plus, if applicable, $175 extra for: (i) each additional misdemeanor charge and $175 for each witness called by the defense (other than the defendant him/herself ); and (ii) for each written motion filed by the defendant and/or the prosecution.*
c.) Yes we handle all kinds of FELONIES. We always try to be affordable. However, because they are more serious, and often entail more than one court appearance, each felony is priced according to the unique facts and circumstances of the case.
HOWEVER, in order to be eligible for this Special the client MUST FIRST:
a.) EITHER CALL US (at 804.549.7240 and specifically mention that you want the “special rate’; OR Go to the CONTACT US page (the link is below) on this website …use our form,…and in your email to us state that “I WANT THE SPECIAL RATE”; AND in your email also; and
b.) By asking for the special rate you agree to watch our video on the “CRIMINAL & TRAFFIC CASES” page of this website. That video contains extremely important information regarding your rights and responsibilities once we go to court. (It will be assumed that you have watched this video.)
NOT APPLICABLE TO JURY TRIALS: The above rates will not apply if your case is tried before a jury.

* Specials are for cases with an actual trial date scheduled within the stated period. Also rates generally assume that the case is being tried in the following jurisdictions: City of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Powhatan, Goochland, Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights. While WE DO TAKE CASES OUTSIDE OF THOSE JURISDICTIONS in some instances, fee adjustments may be necessary. Moreover, we should note that the special rates above apply only in cases to be tried in General District Court and/or the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. [ Virtually all of these cases are tried first in the General District or Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Thus, the special rates on this page do not apply to any case that has already been tried and then appealed from General District or Juvenile Courts to the Circuit Court and/or where the client requests a jury trial.]
PLEASE UNDERSTAND: We cannot guarantee that we will be available on all court dates due to scheduling conflicts with other cases. So please contact us as soon as possible.
VERY IMPORTANT: All conversations are confidential in accordance with applicable ethical rules of the Virginia State Bar. However, in all events, please be advised that we do not represent you and will not appear in court on your behalf until we have signed a legal services agreement to represent you and you pay any legal fee deposit that we may require.
NONE OF THE SPECIAL FEES and RATES set forth on this page will apply UNLESS, the Client requests these special rates prior to the EARLIEST OF: (i) the payment by you (or on your behalf by a third party) of all or any part of the DEPOSIT or legal fees we charge; (ii) we undertake any act to represent you or render any services on your behalf (that is, we commence to render services on your behalf) after completion of the initial consultation; (iii) a fee agreement incorporating fees and/or hourly rates that are different than is set forth on this page is executed by you. THEREFORE, it is important for you to request the special rates and fees stated on this page upfront (normally at the initial consultation).
EASY INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS
We know that being charged with a crime, given a traffic ticket and/or being sued is difficult both psychologically and financially. We are sympathetic and want to make things as easy as possible on our clients.
For folks who have been charged with a crime, given a traffic summons, or have been sued by a third party (such as for child support or custody etc), just ask us, because you may be eligible for the following:
We hold our availability for court dates (on our calendar) only for clients who have actually paid any applicable “deposits” that we require in our fee agreements to secure payment of our future attorney’s fees. However, prospective (new) clients who want us to reserve their court date on our calendar, may be able to do so without first depositing ALL of our required fee in advance. Often we will accept INSTALLMENT payments to be satisfy our “deposits” and or “legal fee” requirements. So please just ask.
We try hard to work with our clients on these matters.
IMPORTANT: WE DO NOT ACCEPT INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS UNLESS WE HAVE AGREED TO DO SO IN WRITING AS PART OF YOUR FEE AGREEMENT.
